Join us at the third of a series of bi-monthly Swan Songs Portland benefit concerts at Artichoke Music!

On Thursday, September 18th, we present three outstanding Portland-based singer/songwriters swapping songs and stories.

James Low

James Low is a Portland-based singer-songwriter celebrated for his heartfelt lyrics and evocative melodies. With a storytelling style rooted in Americana and folk traditions, Low captures the nuances of life, love, and the human experience. Known for his rich, resonant voice and skillful songwriting, he has been a staple of Portland’s vibrant music scene for over 25 years, earning accolades for both his solo performances and collaborations. Whether performing intimate acoustic sets or commanding larger stages, James Low brings an authenticity and depth that resonate with audiences far and wide.

Soulful Americana singer-songwriter Karyn Ann writes excavations—songs that carve meaning out of memory, upend harm into healing, and loose rotting roots into unapologetic new growth. With a voice that’s equal parts church bell and bourbon barrel, Karyn Ann sings both revenge and redemption, winding her way through the stories that define us and leaving no stone unturned. Karyn Ann’s songwriting has been nationally recognized at such festivals as the Great River Folk Fest (WI), Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (CO), Red Ants Pants Music Festival (MT) and Tuscon Folk Festival (AZ).

Explorative, spiritual, queer artist Bobby Jo Valentine strives to make music and poetry that is good medicine for everyone. Each earnest, honest story sung is part campfire revolution, part autopsy, part devotional - hopeful, unflinching, and comfortingly certain we’re part of something so much bigger—so much better—than we know. Bobby Jo has won Song of the Year twice at West Coast Songwriter’s Association, and his work has appeared on radio, TV, and feature films.

Tickets are a suggested donation of $20 to $50, with 90% going to support Swan Songs' Musical Last Wishes concerts. And your contribution is tax deductible. (Contributing less for a ticket is fine, too!)

About Swan Songs Portland:

Swan Songs creates a sense of connection for individuals near the end of life by gifting them private concerts, and supports live music in a community by compensating artists for the concerts. These intimate musical last wishesconcerts are held in healthcare facilities or private homes, and are often attended by family, loved ones, and caregivers. Swan Songs maximizes the impact of the concerts by engaging musicians who match each recipient's favorite style of music, songs, or instruments.  From opera to mariachi, bluegrass to the blues, each concert is unique and deeply meaningful for everyone present. Your generous donation helps us fulfill our mission of bringing private end-of-life concerts to the Portland metro community.

INDIVIDUAL TICKET: $20-$50 (Suggested)

Though we won't turn anyone away, we are respectfully asking for a minimum of $20 per ticket. Ninety percent of the ticket cost goes directly to Swan Songs Portland to provide musical last wishes concerts to individuals nearing the end of life. We use our funding to pay the musicians who play these concerts. The more money we raise, the more capacity we have to meet our concert requests. Thank you for your generous support!
