A songwriter whose songs are often performed by other songwriters, Matt can be heard frequently at Artichoke and throughout the Pacific Northwest, playing his own songs and those of songwriters he admires.
Matt's teaching approach is to help create an environment where students' own wisdom is helped to emerge. "The goal is not the passing along of the teacher's knowledge, nor the passing along of anyone's knowledge: the course sessions are meant to provide occasions for individual insights and encouragement." - poet William Stafford.
Matt studied writing at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Tibetan Buddhist-founded Naropa Institute in Boulder, where he earned an MFA in writing and poetics, as well as completing most of the course work for a master's degree in Transpersonal Psychology
