2013 Spring Term 1
Expanding Our Musical Horizons!

The Artichoke School of Music is the heart of a thriving music community. The Artichoke Community Music board recently asked for help in developing the vision of what Artichoke could be. In five "Listening Sessions," nearly 75 people – teachers, performers, students, partners, donors and funders – came together to share their ideas.

In these sessions, we heard that Artichoke needs to make it possible for more people at all levels of musical ability to learn and share music. We heard that we need to offer more musical opportunities for children, and expand our outreach work to include more schools.

We also researched and were inspired by similar organizations around the country, including Swallow Hill Music in Denver and Old Town School of Music in Chicago – both highly regarded music schools reaching thousands of people every year with multifaceted musical offerings. Just as Swallow Hill reflects Denver and Old Town embodies Chicago, we want to create a uniquely Portland Artichoke Music School. Our newly re-booted School of Music launched on September 4, 2012 and so far, it's been big success.

Registration for the Spring Term 2013 is open now.
