Workshop Info

From hidden communication between slaves to songs fueling movements for economic justice, music serves as a tool to educate, unite and inspire. Charlie King has recreated the history of people’s dreams and struggles for a better world in PowerPoint images, dramatic readings and powerful songs. “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn me ‘Round” offers a history of the Civil Rights Movement for African Americans from 1955 to 1967, highlighting activists such as Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker. With over 200 images from the struggle, more than a dozen songs from the movement and dramatic readings of the narratives of freedom fighters, in the first hour this workshop will offer a wealth of information on the Civil Rights Movement while evoking the emotional spirit that challenged and inspired these courageous activists, children and adults. In the second hour they will lead discussion and group singing!
